Mr. Walker-Smithasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury if he is aware that the Ministry of Information documentary film F/256/1761 contains a reproduction of a page of the "Daily Herald " containing the headline "Tories Trounced"; and whether he will take steps to see that political party propaganda is excluded from such films.
§ Mr. Glenvil Hall:No party propaganda was intended by this film, and the exclusion of such propaganda is accepted Government policy. The film is a brief "trailer" made by the Ministry of Information on behalf of the Ministry of National Insurance. A character in the film refers to a column in the "Daily Herald" dealing with family allowances, 59W which is the subject of the film, and it is quite incidental that the column happened to be on a page which included the headline mentioned by the hon. Member.
