HC Deb 06 May 1946 vol 422 c39W
Colonel J. R. H. Hutchison

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Burma what steps he is taking to restore the production of oil in Burma and to provide compensation for assets destroyed in accordance with Government policy.

Mr. A. Henderson:

The rehabilitation of the oil industry in Burma is being undertaken by the companies concerned with Government assistance in matters such as authorising purchases of equipment from outside the sterling area, the release of key employees from the Forces and the provision of passages. As regards compensation I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the statement made by the Secretary of State for the Colonies on 18th February to which I have nothing to add.
