HC Deb 06 May 1946 vol 422 cc39-40W
8. Major Legge-Bourke

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs the average time taken over the issue of a passport.

Mr. McNeil:

Since so many passports expired during the war, there is an unprecedented demand for new passports. Urgent and compassionate cases however are handled without delay, personal applications being dealt with, where necessary, on the day of application. There is a heavy congestion in less urgent cases, which are subject to a delay of about a fortnight. Additional staff is now being recruited in order to reduce this delay to a minimum.
