HC Deb 01 May 1946 vol 422 cc25-6W
Mr. Norman Smith

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware that an application to join the N.F.S. has been refused to Mr. F. W. Smith, of 20, Park Street Nottingham, on the ground that he wears glasses; and if he will reconsider the application in view of Mr. Smith's long and satisfactory service as a fireman, including the period of the Normandy beachhead.

Mr. Ede:

I have again carefully considered this case but I regret that, for the reasons which I have explained in correspondence with my hon. Friend, it is not possible to accept Mr. Smith's application.
