HC Deb 01 May 1946 vol 422 c26W
Mr. Renton

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will consider making some financial provision whereby recognition may be given to the war service rendered by members of the First Police Reserve, apart from the ordinary pay which they were receiving while serving.

Mr. Ede:

I have considered the question of paying a war gratuity to members of the First Police Reserve, but I have felt bound to adhere to the principle adopted for the civilian Services, under which payment of war gratuity is limited to those who served under Civil Defence conditions and whose rates of pay were consequently related to Army rates. The First Police Reserve were not so employed and do not, therefore, qualify for the gratuity.
