HC Deb 21 March 1946 vol 420 c411W
92. Lieut.-Colonel Price-White

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General, what consideration has been given to over hauling the present temporary staff in the Post Office with a view to eliminating, as far as is practicable, those married women and others who were taken on during the wartime labour shortage and who have no real need of the employment, and thus making additional posts available for ex-Service men and women who have no resources or support of any kind.

Mr. Burke

As regards the release of temporary staff I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the reply given to the hon. and gallant Member for East Dorset (Colonel Wheatley) on 28th February. It is the aim of the Post Office to cover the needs of the work to the maximum possible extent by permanent rather than temporary staff. The arrangements for the recruitment on a permanent basis during the reconstruction period afford liberal opportunities to ex-Service men and women.
