asked the Assistant Postmaster-General the latest available figure for the annual cost of making good, damage to public telephone kiosks; and what steps are being taken to prevent wanton damage being done to these kiosks and installations.

As to the first part of the Question, I regret I am unable to furnish a figure, as the collection of the information would involve considerable detailed investigation in all telephone areas throughout the country, which could only be undertaken to the detriment of essential work. As to the second part, all cases are reported to the police, and when appropriate, prosecutions are undertaken.
