HC Deb 21 March 1946 vol 420 c419W
107. Mr. Dumpleton

asked the Secretary of State for War how many of the Spanish Republicans who were interned at Chorley have now returned to France; how many are unwilling to return to France or Spain; and on what conditions these men are being permitted to remain in this country.

Mr. Bellenger

Fifty-eight of these men have already returned to France. Of those still at Chorley 59 have not volunteered to go to France. As my right hon. Friend stated in reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Maldon (Mr. Driberg) on 12th March, the question of the disposal of those who are at present unwilling to go to France is under consideration with other Departments concerned. They are mean-while being detained as prisoners of war.
