HC Deb 04 June 1946 vol 423 c312W
Mr. A. Edward Davies

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will now exempt children's gymnasium shoes from coupons and so relieve school authorities and parents from difficulty in obtaining essential equipment.

Mr. Belcher

No, Sir. An allocation of coupons is made to the Ministry of Education and the Scottish Education Department to provide plimsolls for communal use in schools. If they were taken off the ration, it would be difficult to ensure that sufficient plimsolls were available for gymnastics and physical training.
