HC Deb 21 February 1946 vol 419 cc298-9W
Sir W. Smithers

asked the Minister of National Insurance the amounts now standing to the credit of each of the funds listed in the Ninth Schedule of the National Insurance Bill.

Mr. J. Griffiths:

The amounts standing to the credit of the funds listed in the Ninth Schedule of the National Insurance Bill at the dates specified were approximately as follows:

due to single line working between Hat-field Peveril and Chelmsford necessitated by track relaying operations.

This delay was abnormal. The average delay on four of the previous five Sundays was 17 minutes. On the other Sunday the train was 67 minutes late owing to a brake failure.

Mr. Walker-Smith

asked the Minister of War Transport why there was no heating in the carriages of the 9.30 a.m. train from Norwich to Liverpool Street on Sunday, 10th February; and whether it is normal for there to be no heating on this train.

Mr. Barnes:

The railway company's records show that steam heating on this train on Ioth February was maintained at full pressure between Norwich and Ipswich. From Ipswich to Liverpool Street the pressure fell to 50 per cent. on account of engine trouble. Adequate heating is normally provided on this train.
