HC Deb 14 February 1946 vol 419 c136W
Captain Gunter

asked the Minister of Health if he will take action in the case of Mr. Mansfield, of Hallesville Cottage, Ballards Gore, Canewdon, Essex, who is threatened with eviction in the near future on the authority of a court order; if he is aware that this man is a permanent invalid with six children, and has failed to find alternative accommodation; and in view of the fact that Rochford Rural District Council has not requisitioned any empty habitable houses in their area, will he take steps to prevent further eviction taking place.

Mr. Bevan

I have made inquiries and am informed that, upon a certificate from the county war agricultural executive committee stating that the house was required for an agricultural worker, the court made the order for possession. The question whether it is reasonable to make such an order is in the discretion of the court, and I have no power to intervene. I am informed that the local authority are making every effort to find accommodation for Mr. Mansfield and his family.
