HC Deb 14 February 1946 vol 419 cc142-3W
Mr. A. Lewis

asked the Minister of Food whether he will consider making banquets, dinner parties, etc., illegal and use the food saved thereby for increasing rations to the general public.

Sir B. Smith

I strongly deprecate the holding of banquets at the present time of world food shortage. I am taking steps to ensure that the ordinary allow- ances of food for meals in catering establishments are not exceeded at such functions, but the total amount of food consumed in this way is of course negligible in relation to our total consumption.
