HC Deb 14 February 1946 vol 419 c142W
Mr. Hale

asked the Minister of Food why, when the Iceland Government recently made an offer to supply fresh whale meat to this country as a valuable addition to our food resources, the offer was refused; and whether, in view of the altered food position, he will now reopen negotiations with the Governments of Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark for the importation of this foodstuff.

Sir B. Smith

I am not aware that any offer of fresh whale meat has been made to my Department by the Iceland Government. I am advised that it would be difficult to find an outlet in this country for this unaccustomed type of food, but I will bear my hon. Friend's suggestion in mind.
