HC Deb 14 February 1946 vol 419 c143W
Mr. Kendall

asked the Minister of Food if he will consider making a concession whereby civilians who were interned in concentration camps and have returned to this country in a destitute condition may purchase milk at a reduced price in cases where they are suffering from malnutrition.

Dr. Edith Summerskill

My right hon. Friend has made arrangements for repatriated civilian prisoners of war who are suffering from malnutrition to be allowed extra milk but I am sorry we cannot undertake to make milk available at a reduced price for those who are in a destitute condition. There are sources from which people in this plight can obtain financial and other assistance to enable them to get the nourishment that they need.
