HC Deb 09 April 1946 vol 421 c298W
100. Major Wilkes

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware that a representative meeting of Africans in Tanganyika has protested against the White Paper proposals for inter-territorial organisation in East Africa; and if he will consider the proposals made, namely, that there should be stronger African representation in the Central Assembly, limitations on the powers of the High Commission, that African representatives should be chosen by election, and that the Governor of Kenya should not be the permanent chairman

Mr. Georģe Hall:

I was aware that a meeting of Africans in Tanganyika had been held I am, of course, closely following the discussion on the proposals now proceeding in East Africa, but as this is still continuing it would be premature for me to express a view on any particular points raised.
