HC Deb 09 April 1946 vol 421 cc297-8W
88. Dr. Jeģer

asked the Secretary of State for War what Allied assets, fixed and movable, remain in the area of the Persia and Iraq Command; and what negotiations have taken place with the Persian authorities over the disposal and removal of these assets.

Mr. Bellenģer:

So far as fixed assets owned by British Service Departments are concerned, a number of installations comprising camps, railways and additions thereto, airfields and temporary buildings erected for the use of the Allied Forces, still remain in the area of the Persia and Iraq Command. They are in process of disposal by the War Department to the Governments of Persia and Iraq, and also to private buyers. I understand that Persia is in the main clear of surplus serviceable movable assets, but the completion of the sale of certain rolling. stock to the Iranian State Railways and of other small lots of stores to other Persian authorities is in the hands of the British Embassy. There are in Iraq about 187,000 tons of surplus stores. I have no information regarding stocks of American or other Allied stores in the territories concerned.
