asked the Minister of Labour how many men and women, respectively, have so far taken advantage of the Further Education and Training Scheme; in what subjects education and training is now available; how many individuals have applied for financial assistance towards the cost of training or as a maintenance allowance; and to how many this assistance has been granted.

Awards under the Further Education and Training Scheme have made in respect of courses of training for:

Accountancy. Local Government Service.
Agriculture and Horticulture. Medical Auxiliary Services.
Architecture. Medicine.
Civil Service. Ministers of Religion.
Dentistry. Music, Painting, Sculpture Ballet and Dramatic Art.
Domestic Economy. Museum Work.
Dress Designing. Optical Work.
Engineering, including Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Radio. Forestry. Pharmacy.
Ophthalmic Surgery. Pharmacy.
Certain qualifications in Industry and Commerce. Social Work. Surveying, Auctioneering Land Agency.
Journalism. Laundry Management. Teaching.
Law. University Degrees.
Librarianship Veterinary Surgery.
Youth Leadership.

As at 31st October the position of applications under the Scheme was as follows:

Lieut.-Colonel Byers

asked the Minister of Labour whether he will now expedite the arrangements for Mr. A. R. Brown, of Milton Abbas, Blandford, Dorset, to undertake a vocational training course in boot repairing, in view of the fact that he was promised such a course on 12th September, since when he has heard nothing.
