HC Deb 17 December 1945 vol 417 cc1070-1W
Sir J. Mellor

asked the Secretary of State for War when the accounts of officers repatriated from India in June, reached England; if he will explain the delay; and what steps he has taken to prevent recurrence.

Mr. Lawson

In the normal case these last pay certificates were received at about the time of the officers' arrival from India, but in some instances delay occurred and in those cases they arrived at various later dates. A few are still outstanding and are the subject of urgent inquiry. Delay occurs through omission to notify the Pay Office in India of the officer's departure from that country. Strong representations are being made to G.H.Q. India on this point with a view to the prevention of recurrences.
