§ Mr. W. Williamsasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he will consider granting the claim of the Mauritius Government Pensioners' Association for the extension of cost-of-living increases to all Government pensioners on the same basis as to salaried officers.
§ Mr. George HallThe cost-of-living allowances of pensioners of the Government of Mauritius are paid from Mauritius funds and are primarily a matter for the Mauritius Government. Under the scheme adopted by that Government. Cost-of-living allowance is payable to all 571W serving officers, but no allowance is pay able on pensions of Rupees 250 a month or over. I see no reason to question the decision of the Mauritius Government in this matter. As the hon. Member is aware, the bonus payable to pensioners of His Majesty's Government, under the provisions of the Pensions (Increase) Acts, 1944,. is subject to a much lower ceiling than the salary ceiling governing the award of bonus to serving officials.
