HC Deb 12 December 1945 vol 417 c571W
Mr. T. Reid

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if, in view of the fact that the cost of living of European officials in Ceylon has doubled since 1939 and that the cost of maintaining two households, one in Britain another in Ceylon, hits these officials hard, he will secure passages by air or sea for their wives who at present cannot join their husbands in Ceylon.

Mr. George Hall

As I stated in the reply which I gave on 10th October to the hon. Member for East Fife (Mr. Henderson Stewart), I have every sympathy with those in this situation, but it cannot, I fear, be remedied until more shipping can be made available.
