Miss Wardasked the Secretary of State for India the foreign service allowances and rates of pay for British officers and troops in the Indian and Burma theatres of war.
§ Mr. AmeryIn India British troops serve on the Indian Pay Code. This Code does not provide for specific Colonial allowance. British other ranks receive the Royal Warrant rates converted at 1s. 4d. to the rupee, which is tantamount to a Colonial allowance of I2½ per cent. Officers receive consolidated rupee rates which include an element corresponding to the Colonial allowance. I am sending the hon. Member an official publication which gives the rates of pay of officers in further detail. British troops serving on the Assam-Burma front are on the Indian Pay Code.
