HC Deb 14 October 1943 vol 392 cc1094-5W
Mr. Stephen

asked the Minister of Supply what percentage of Government heavy clothing contracts were placed in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, respectively, for 1943 to the nearest available date; and whether he will consider increasing the number of such contracts in Scotland in the near future?

Mr. Peat

With regard to contracts placed so far this year by the Ministry of Supply, the percentages are—England, 84; Scotland, 8; Northern Ireland, 7 ½; Wales, ½. Owing to the decrease in Service clothing requirements, it is unlikely that the number of contracts placed in Scotland by the Ministry of Supply can be increased, but I will look further into the matter and communicate with the hon. Member.
