HC Deb 14 October 1943 vol 392 c1095W
Mr. De la Bère

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Economic Warfare whether a decision has now been reached with regard to the request sent by the Neutral Commission in Greece, in June last, for certain special milk foods; what quantities it is proposed to authorise on receipt of a favourable reply; and what supplementary requests have been received from Greece since July last; and whether increased supplies of food have been sent?

Mr. Foot

As regards the first and second parts of the Question, the request for special milk foods was received in April. It has not yet been possible to despatch the particular type of food asked for, but, as I informed my hon. Friend on 5th August, an equivalent quantity of pablum, a food suitable for consumption by children, has been sent. The request received from the Commission in June proved to be for 260 tons of powdered milk or 600 tons of condensed milk monthly. It was decided to authorise monthly shipments from July of approximately 300 tons of condensed milk and 300 tons of evaporated milk. As regards the third and fourth parts of the Question, the Commission has asked for a consignment of low fat soya flour for experimental purposes, and this is being sent from the United States. No other supplementary requests have been received from the Commission since July, and the programme of supplies remains otherwise unchanged.
