HC Deb 12 October 1943 vol 392 cc750-1W
Mr. Touche

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he is aware that his public statement that coke consumers arc temporarily entitled to register with coke producers has been modified by a private instruction to fuel overseers that such registration is to be refused when a merchant is in a position to supply coke; and whether he will explain this apparent variation of a public statement by a private circular to local fuel overseers?

Major Lloyd George

I regret that there was some confusion in the original instructions on this point, but steps have been taken to correct any possible misapprehension and notices have been issued in greater detail in the local Press which set out the position quite clearly. I am sending my hon. Friend a copy of the local Press announcement which will appear at regular intervals throughout the country.
