HC Deb 30 March 1943 vol 388 cc40-1W
Professor Gruffydd

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether treasure trove from Wales is placed at the disposal of the National Museum of Wales on terms similar to treasures trove in Scotland and Northern Ireland which are placed, by grace of the Crown, at the disposal of the Royal Scottish Museum and Belfast Municipal Museum, respectively?

Sir K. Wood

I assume that my hon. Friend is seeking to secure for the National Museum of Wales the first refusal of treasure trove in Wales. For very many years the Trustees of the British Museum have been given first choice of treasure trove from both England and Wales. I shall be happy to inquire the views of the Trustees and, when they have been obtained, to consider the matter further.
