HC Deb 04 February 1943 vol 386 cc1076-7W
Mr. Perkins

asked the Home Secretary why it took half an hour for a brigade to reach a fire in Wotton-under-Edge on 29th December?

Mr. H. Morrison

I am informed that an appliance from Nailsworth manned by whole-time firemen attended a fire at Wotton-under-Edge, eight miles away, 20 minutes after the call had been received by the National Fire Service. The appliance stationed at Wotton-under-Edge is manned by part-time personnel: under the standing arrangements this appliance should also have been called out, but by an omission this was not done. Suitable action is being taken in the matter.
