HC Deb 04 February 1943 vol 386 c1076W
Mr. De la Bère

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether, in connection with the recent veto against high-powered motor-cars being allocated any petrol, special consideration will be given to farmers who have high-powered motorcars for the purpose of drawing trailers with farm produce?

Major Lloyd George

There is no such veto, but I do not encourage the use of high-powered cars and petrol allowances are not calculated at a higher consumption rate than one gallon to 20 miles except in exceptional circumstances, such as the need to draw a heavy trailer. In accordance with this decision regional petroleum officers are empowered to grant an increased allowance for cars of any horsepower in respect of mileage run with a trailer.
