HC Deb 09 September 1942 vol 383 cc166-7W
Mr. Liddall

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty why certain naval ratings performing the same duties afloat as they have been doing for the past year or so have, during the past six months, had their hard lying money stopped; and how many sailors have been so treated?

Mr. Alexander

Hard lying money is only payable when ships of certain classes operate in open waters. The ships in question are not operating in open waters and are not therefore eligible for hard lying money, though this was paid to them for some time owing to a misunderstanding. I will ascertain the number of men affected and inform my hon. Friend.
