Mr. Rostron Duckworthasked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that in many towns, especially with the increasing number of soldiers in this country, sufficient sleeping accommodation does not exist for Service men passing through; and whether additional steps can be taken to remedy all such shortcomings?
§ Sir J. GriggVoluntary organisations run hostels for members of the Services in towns where there is a demand for 63W sleeping accommodation for troops stranded while travelling or spending a night's short leave there. The voluntary organisation running a hostel is given a large measure of assistance from public funds. Sleeping accommodation is also provided at many important railway stations. Where existing accommodation proves inadequate further provision is always considered and made where practicable.
