HC Deb 07 October 1942 vol 383 c1234W
Sir A. Maitland

asked the Secretary to the Treasury whether he will cause inquiries to be made into the time taken by Government Departments in dealing with correspondence; and whether he will ask Ministers to instruct their Departments to answer letters much more promptly?

Captain Crookshank

The inquiries suggested by my hon. Friend would require much time, labour and correspondence which I cannot feel would be justified by the result. Ministers are very conscious of the need for dealing with public business as expeditiously as possible, but if my hon. Friend has in mind any particular correspondence where he thinks that replies have been unreasonably delayed, he should raise the matter with the responsible Minister.
