asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether his attention has been drawn to the need of smoke abatement, in view of the poor quality coals used and especially in London at the Criterion Restaurant on 17th and 18th of this month; and what action is being taken?

I understand that the emission of smoke, to which my hon. Friend refers, was largely attributable to the direction of the wind on the days in question. Arrangements have been made, however, to change the type of the fuel supplied to this establishment, and this will, it is hoped, prevent any recurrence of the incident.
