HC Deb 17 November 1942 vol 385 cc208-9W
Major Lloyd

asked the Prime Minister whether he will agree to address in camera a representative conference of the shipbuilding industry, with a view to emphasising the urgency of the situation and the vital necessity of increased co-operation and sustained efforts by all concerned?

Mr. Attlee

A representative conference of the shipbuilding and shiprepairing industries was convened in London on 23rd September, and addressed by the First Lord of the Admiralty and the Minister of Labour on the lines suggested. A personal message from the Prime Minister was read to the meeting. Those present were left in no doubt as to the urgency of the present situation, the vital necessity of increased co-operation and of sustained efforts by all concerned. It is not, therefore, considered necessary to convene a further conference on the lines proposed at the present time.
