HC Deb 17 November 1942 vol 385 c208W
Mr. Perkins

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that in the county of Gloucestershire mothers are unable to take up part-time work in factories owing to the need of feeding their children at midday; and whether he will discuss with the President of the Board of Education the possibility of a further extension of meals at all schools?

Mr. Bevin

I have made some inquiries but have no evidence that, for the reason mentioned in the Question, mothers in Gloucestershire are unable to take up part-time work. If my hon. Friend has any cases specially in mind, I should be obliged if he would send me particulars. I understand from my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Education that arrangements for increasing the facilities for meals in schools in the area are already well in hand.
