HC Deb 17 November 1942 vol 385 cc207-8W
Sir I. Albery

asked the Minister of Labour whether travelling expenses are allowed to workers transferred from their usual employment to work at a greater distance and at a lesser rate of pay?

Mr. Bevin

I have nothing to add to the reply given to my hon. Friend on 22nd October.

Sir I. Albery

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that the rates of earnings of many workers are reduced when transferred from work in the London area to a country area, whilst their domicile and living expenses remain unaltered; and if he can take any steps to deal with this hardship?

Mr. Bevin

Allowances for transferred workers' are provided to cover the extra cost of living away from home and continuing liabilities in the home area. On the question of reduced earnings, I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given to him on 22nd October.
