HC Deb 18 March 1942 vol 378 c1526W
Sir H. Williams

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food what steps it is proposed to take to obtain other feeding stuffs for cattle, pigs and poultry as a result of the decision to introduce the national wholemeal loaf for human consumption?

Major Lloyd George

During the remainder of the winter rationing period which ends on 3oth April, the supplies of cereal feeding stuffs available will be sufficient to maintain the existing rates of ration. During the summer period, much smaller quantities of purchased cereal feeding stuffs are needed and the summer rates of ration will be maintained by releasing a limited quantity of maize now held in reserve. The position with regard to next winter will be reviewed when more information is available about prospective supplies from home crops and other sources.
