§ Mr. Tinkerasked the President of the Board of Education the methed followed in appointing inspectors for schools under the Board; and whether such appointments are open to all citizens who have the necessary qualifications?
§ Mr. ButlerVacancies in the inspectorate are advertised in the Press. Candidates whose qualifications and experience appear to be suitable are interviewed by a Selection Board which includes a representative of the Civil Service Commissioners. Appointments to the inspectorate are open to all citizens who are British subjects and have the necessary qualifications and experience, except that it has not been the practice to appoint married women or ministers of religion or candidates over 50 years of age. The normal recruitment is at present suspended. During the war appointments to the inspectorate, as to other grades of the Civil Service, are on a temporary basis and are made by the Department.
