HC Deb 08 December 1942 vol 385 cc1442-3W
Mr. Oliver

asked the Home Secretary whether the Probation Advisory Committee and the London Probation Committee are functioning; and, if not, whether he is prepared to reconstitute these committees in view of the importance attached to them in the Social Services Report.

Mr. H. Morrison

The meetings of the Probation Advisory Committee had to be postponed indefinitely on the outbreak of war and several of its original members are still unavailable. As the period for which the committee was appointed has expired the question whether in present circumstances it is desirable to reconstitute it will be considered. As regards the London Probation Committee I made a proposal to the chief magistrate some little time ago for its reconstitution and I understand that this proposal will be brought before the next meeting of metropolitan magistrates.
