HC Deb 08 December 1942 vol 385 c1442W
Mr. Thorne

asked the Home Secretary whether he has considered paragraphs 6, 7 and 8 of the Second Report from the Committee of Public Accounts; and what he intends doing about the matter?

Mr. Peake

Yes, Sir. My right hon. Friend is satisfied, after consultation with the Commissioner of Police, that in the interests of the efficiency of the Metropolitan Police, it is essential for the food service to be maintained on the present lines, even though this entails a substantial charge on public funds. At the same time efforts continue to be made to improve the standard of efficiency and the system of control, as suggested by the Public Accounts Committee.
