HC Deb 06 August 1942 vol 382 c1215W
Colonel Carver

asked the Minister of Supply whether attempts are being made to reduce the amount of paper consumed by football pools.

Sir A. Duncan

Yes, Sir. My hon. and gallant Friend will no doubt have observed from the reply given on 30th July by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Home Department to the hon. Member for Stourbridge [Official Report, Vol. 382, cols. 681–2] that the amount of football pool business, and consequently the consumption of paper, has fallen greatly since the outbreak of war. As regards specific restrictions, the gratuitous distribution of coupons or entry forms, the distribution of advertising circulars, and the exhibition of posters are prohibited.
