HC Deb 06 August 1942 vol 382 cc1215-6W
Mr. Groves

asked the Minister of Supply whether he is aware that ribbons for shoulder straps are essential to ladies' underwear and that the use of cut and sealed satin has been forbidden as a substitute; whether he will reconsider this decision; and whether he will release more braid elastic to meet the requirements for women in the Services?

Mr. Peat

I am unaware of any regulations forbidding the use of cut and sealed satin as a substitute for ribbon for shoulder straps. All demands for braid elastic for the women's Services, both for new garments and for maintenance purposes, are being met in full.
