HC Deb 06 August 1942 vol 382 cc1204-5W
Mr. R. Morgan

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether it is permissible to use pea flour for food for animals; and whether any device has succeeded in making the horse chestnut palatable for either human beings or animals?

Mr. Mabane

Pea flour made from feeding peas or pea pickings and pea flour unfit for human consumption may be used for feeding to livestock. No practical device is known for making horse chestnuts palatable for human beings. Advice on the preparation of a horse chestnut meal suitable for replacing cereals in the rations of fattening stock is, however, set out in a leaflet issued by the Ministry of Agriculture of which I am sending the hon. Member a copy.
