HC Deb 06 August 1942 vol 382 c1203W
Mr. Gallacher

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether it is the policy of the Ministry to ensure in rural areas that the organised farm workers are consulted about arrangements for British Restaurants, especially when travelling canteens, serving the farm workers are involved?

Mr. Mabane

The policy of my Noble Friend is that all the interests concerned shall be consulted about arrangements for the provision of meals in rural areas. In the development of British Restaurants close contact has been maintained with farm workers' organisations and their advice has been of great value in deciding where facilities are necessary. Responsibility for the operation of such restaurants has been entrusted to local authorities and it is of course for them to decide what consultations are desirable on questions of management and the transport of meals.
