HC Deb 06 August 1942 vol 382 c1203W
Mr. R. Morgan

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he can make any statement as to the operation of the sweets rationing scheme, especially in relation to the sale of sweets in places of entertainment?

Mr. Mabane

The scheme of rationing applied to loose and pre-packed chocolate, chocolate confectionery and sugar confectionery has only been in operation since Sunday, 26th July. It is too early to express any opinion on its operation, either in general or with particular reference to places of entertainment. Places of entertainment are rated as retail shops and the main conditions of sale are that the seller must be licensed in respect of retail sales and must obtain the surrender by the purchaser of coupons to the appropriate value.
