§ Mr. Rhys Daviesasked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that the proposal to apply for an Order authorising the opening of cinemas on Sundays, at Newport, Monmouthshire, was carried by only one vote of a 1132W majority of the town council; and will he bear this in mind when dealing with the council's request?
§ Mr. H. MorrisonI am aware of the circumstances to which my hon. Friend refers. If the Newport Borough Council make a draft Order under the Sunday Entertainments Act, 1932, after complying with the statutory requirements, it will be my duty to lay it before Parliament, and it will then be for the House to decide whether or not they will approve the Order.
