HC Deb 09 April 1941 vol 370 c1580W
Mr. R. Morgan

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that Mr. Ernest Heberden, an organiser of the Peace Pledge Union, who was liable for military service under the Armed Forces Act, failed to take the necessary steps to appear before the appropriate tribunal; that the case was determined in his absence and he was removed from the register of conscientious objectors; that the case was reheard and, as a result of the rehearing, a decision given that the appellant should perform agricultural work; that this decision was subsequently modified by the appeals tribunal; and whether he will inquire into the circumstances in which there was a rehearing of this case by the first tribunal?

Mr. Bevin

I am having inquiries made and will communicate with my hon. Friend as soon as possible.
