Sir P. Harris

asked the Secretary of State for War how many British troops are now in Egypt; and whether it is intended to take advantage of the provisions of Article 7 of the Anglo-Egyptian Treaty and expand our forces in the light of the present emergency?

Sir V. Warrender

The hon. Member will, I hope, appreciate that it would not be advisable at the present time to disclose information of this nature.

Captain Plugge

asked the Prime Minister whether the Egyptian Government is satisfied with the arrangements that have been made for ensuring the security of Egypt against aggression?

The Prime Minister

I would refer my hon. Friend to the statement made in the Egyptian Chamber of Deputies by the Prime Minister on 24th April. As I stated on the 1st May, this declaration had been noted with much appreciation by His Majesty's Government.
