HC Deb 21 December 1938 vol 342 c2916W
Mr. Garro Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether he will state the precise functions and powers of the Air Ministry Supply Committee, and the work accomplished by the committee since its inception?

Sir K. Wood

The Air Ministry Supply Committee was set up to expedite the approval of orders required to fulfil the expansion programme and to recommend for approval any financial assistance needed for further manufacturing extensions and plant. The committee's recommendations are subject to the final approval of the Air Council and the Treasury. The activities of the committee have now been extended to cover matters of general organisation of production to meet the further needs of expansion. Since its inception, as a consequence of the work of the committee, a large number of orders have been placed for aircraft and large additions have been authorised for buildings and plant.
