HC Deb 21 December 1938 vol 342 cc2915-6W
Sir R. Gower

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether he will state the number of locally-entered industrial employés of his Department in Egypt; whether these full-time employés are all British-born subjects; whether they enjoy any annual leave privileges; and, if not, whether he will consider granting them at least a week's holiday of the kind in question?

Sir K. Wood

The number of locally-entered Air Ministry industrial employés in Egypt, according to latest returns available, is 1,639, not all of whom are British-born subjects. The regulations do not provide for annual leave with pay in the case of such employés, but they are eligible for eight public holidays with pay.

Sir R. Gower

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether he can give the number of industrial locally-entered employés of his Department at all stations with which he has to do other than Egypt; and whether these enjoy an annual holiday?

Sir K. Wood

According to the latest information available there are 7,932 locally-entered industrial employés of all grades at Royal Air Force stations abroad other than Egypt. The regulations do not provide for annual leave with pay in the case of such employés, but they are eligible for eight public holidays with pay, and in Iraq, as a result of local legislation, this has been increased to 10 days.
