HC Deb 21 December 1938 vol 342 c2909W
Mr. Lunn

asked the Minister of Health whether, under the existing regulations, a person who is now a compulsory contributor for National Health Insurance benefits and becomes an established civil servant within the next 12 months will be permitted to become a voluntary contributor and be entitled to all benefits?

Mr. Bernays

A person who has been insured as an employed contributor for at least 104 weeks and who becomes an established civil servant is entitled to become a voluntary contributor, either for health insurance or for pensions insurance or for both, if he gives notice of his desire to become such a contributor before the expiration of his free period of insurance, which is a period of 21 months on average from the date on which he ceases to be insurably employed.
