HC Deb 21 December 1938 vol 342 cc2908-9W
Mr. Liddall

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that the small amount paid annually for armorial bearings licences indicates that the tax is not demanded universally by local authorities to whom operation of the law is entrusted; and will he therefore either take steps for the abolition of the tax or draw the attention of all the responsible authorities to their non-observance of demand and collection of the tax from the large number of persons liable?

Mr. Bernays

My right hon. Friend has no information in regard to the number of persons who are liable to pay this licence duty, which is collected and retained by the local authorities concerned and applied in reduction of rates. My right hon. Friend has received no representations from the authorities in regard to its abolition.
